DEATH MYSTERY.

An open verdict was returned at an inquest at Hackney on Sidney Samuel Jacobs (28), a mantle manufacturer, who was found dead in bed at his home in Stoke Newington. It was stated that Jacobs had a slight accident recently when cranking up his motor car and had been to the London Hospital for an X-ray examination. Lewis Jacobs, a brother, said the man came home about midnight on December 22, and, owing to workmen doing repairs to the house, slept in. a room which had recently been unoccupied. On the following morning witness forced the door and found his brother apparently dead. He did not smell gas and thought his brother had taken an overdose of cough mixture. The Coroner: Had your brother troubles of any sort? Mr. Jacobs: No, he was in a wonderful position. He was a director of a £20,000 company. Mr. Jacobs added that his brother intended to get married next March. Dr. R. Bronte, the pathologist, gave the cause of death as carbon monoxide poisoning. Jacobs, he said, had inhaled a lot of gas. The coroner said the question was whether the man had taken his own life, or whether his death was accidental. If the jury could not solve the mystery it was their dut» to return an open, Ees&et.
