HUNDRED POUND FINE

In the Supreme Court to-day Herbert George Taylor, found guilty of carrying on the business of a bookmaker in the bar of an hotel, was fined £100. Judge Adams, replying to counsel, said the fine must be substantial. Ivor Robert Prescott (29), for theft from a dwelling, was ordered three years* probation. Frederick Arthur Hayward Penfold, of Amberley farmer (24), for theft of wool fleeces, was sentenced to eighteen months' gaol. The judge said prisoner had not heeitated to create an atmosphere of strong suspicion around two Crown witnesses. Melville Clark (34), for theft from a dwelling waa sentenced to a year's gaol Harry Pugh, for indecent assault on a male, waa ordered three years' reformative.
