TO-DAY'S RACING.

Te Aroha Jockey Club.

ANNUAL MEETING OPENS.

Gala Day Scores In Hurdles.— Crown Arch's Waitoa Handicap. (By Telegraph.—Special to "•Star.") TE AROHA, this day. The annual meeting of the Te Aroha Jockey Club was opened to-day, and will he concluded on Monday. There was a large attendance, and the weather was perfect, with the course in excellent order. Proceedings commenced with the Ruakaka Hurdles, for which Ripon Abbey ( £548) was a shade better backed than the Gala Day-Boomerday bracket, which carried £540, with Highflown ( £479) next fancied. Ripon Abbey and Berinthia delayed the start for a time, and the last-named was slow away when the barrier lifted. Gala Day led to the first fence, where Ripon Abbey fell, and a little further on Bundee Boy was pulled up. Going out of the straight Gala Day was showing the way to Berinthia, Boomerday, Highflown. Ramblin' Kid, Ah Wera, Odin, and Star of the East, and he led along the back, where Berinthia had moved up into second place, followed by Odin. Highflown, and Ramblin' Kid. Gala Day made a faulty jump at this stage. Berinthia took the lead, but three furlongs from home Gala Day assumed command again, and led into the straight to go on and win by three lengths and a half from Ramblin' Kid, who beat Berinthia by two lengths. Star of the East was fourth, followed by Boomerday. Odin, Highflown, Ah Wera and King Fame. Favourite Beaten in Waitoa.

Kanui, Kaha, Liona and Swift Light were the defections from the Waitoa Handicap, for which event sixteen horses faced the starter. When backers got to work they made Bold Archer ( £789) favourite, next in request being Sir Mond (£719), and Prince of Orange ( £6051, while the winner carried £364. When they were let go Camp Prince was first to show out from Crown Arch and Red Lion, but along the back the order was Red Lion, Crown Arch. Camp Prince, Terrapeen, Archette, Blue Bonnet, Sir Mond and Prince of Orange. Racing across the top Red Lion was still in charge, attended by Crown Arch, Camp Prince and Sir Mond. The order into the straight was Red Lion, Crown Arch, Archette. Sir Mond, Terrapeen and Prince of Orange, with Bold Archer on the outer. Crowu Arch took charge when the field straightened up for home, and doing it nicely went on to win by one length and a quarter from Sir Mond, with Prince of Orange three-quarters of a length away. Bold Archer was fourth, with Red Lion. Terrapeen, Te Waka, Camp Prince and Ruby Dawn next. The Juveniles.

Eaglet and Etahi Rangi were withdrawn from the Juvenile Handicap, for which Polyxena was made a hot favourite, carrying £1319, the next best backed being Love Call (£451) and Gay Duke (£333). Awamutu and Polyxena were quickest to begin, and, crossing the top, Polyxena took charge, with Awamutu, Love Call. Yalstreet. Yalreina and Gay Duke following. Polyxena was first to turn for home, with Awamutu. Love Call, Yalstreet, Nerval Tea and Gay Dnke racing as named, and, holding her advantage, she passed the post half a length ahead of Awamutu, with Gay Duke, who finished fast, three-quarters of a length away, third. Love Call was fourth, next to finish being Flying Prince. Valstreet, Yalreina, Trig, and Motere!
