SAILOR LEAVES SHIP.
ARRESTED IN NEWMARKET.
WITH AUTOMATIC PHTOX.
HANDED TO NAVAL AUTHORITIES.
Early this morning, in Newmarket, Constable Rattray arrested Arthur Shadbolt (23), a seaman from H-M.s. Veronica, Shadbolt, who was not wearing the uniform of a bluejacket, appeared at the Police Court this morning, when he pleaded guilty to a charge of being unlawfully in possession of an automatic pistol.
Sub-Inspector McCarthy said Shadbolt decided to leave his ship last night. Hβ was found walking through Newmarket with the pistol this morninp. He had only £1 2/10 on him when arrested. The pistol belonged to tne ship's doctor.
Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., ordered accused to be handed over to the naval authorities. Shadbolt left the Court under a naval guard.
