ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY.
VALUAB£E MATERIAL FOR STUDY. "KEEPING PACE WITH PROGRESS." The formation of a zoological society for the city was favourably considered last evening by the City Council. "Full advantage is not at present being taken of the valuable material available, for the study of zoology, among the exhibits at the Zoological Park," stated the Mayor, Mr. Geo. Baildon, in a report. Submitting that the council could now claim to have a representative exhibition of animals and birds, with a wide range, the Mayoi considered it would be of the utmost value to students, and to citizens generally who were interested in such matters, to form a society where interesting lectures could be given by competent speakers on the different types of animal and bird life.
Such a society should be of great assistance to the Parks Committee in offering suggestions on matters for the improvement and well-being of the Zoo, and in maintaining interest in the Zoological Park by increasing the exhibits and attractions and keeping pace wi'th the progress made since its establishment.
A recommendation that the question be referred to the Parks Committee for report was adopted.
