GAS IN WARFARE.

Seeing a paragraph in your paper stating that a poison pas chamber was beinjr erected, I have been wondering a great deal about this. Does it mean that the authorities of the Xaval Division are going to send their trainees into this chamber to test the efficiency of gas helmets? It seems to me an outrageous thing expect young men to take such risks. I» this another form of preparation for another war horror? If so. it is about time people woke up and denounced war. Personally I would rather kill niy dear one? with my own hands than suffer tbem to have to face another terrible slaughter. In the la>t war £as attack was only in its experimental stages, and. if we are not too dull to already understand. we will suffer torture and doom in the mass. Is this gas training for youths but the prelude to that catastrophe? Where are our courageous public men, our Christians and our idealists? MOTHER. I would sugpest that the protective little "house of horrors"' at Devonport would be far better located on some isolated island where any accidental experimental results could be more easily kept from the morbidly-inclined, not forgetting the susceptibilities of the decent, educated people of the seaside suburb. Presumably any sacrifice* in this connection would be in the noble cause of Kmpire and humanity, so why should any bod v have even the rightto worry or object? The active cause of peace and its psychological practice is such a trifling consequence to those who rave about preparation" that perforce we must bow and submit to their will, superior wisdom and convenience. .TKRIC'HO. Mrs. M. B. S<4jak also write- protesting against this development.
