LOCAL BODIES.

MT. ALBERT BOROUGH. The Mt. Albert Borough Council met on Tuesday the Mayor, Mr. L E. Rhodes, presiding. Drainage.—The joint committee reported that the sewer drainage for block lying between Parrish Road and Balmoral Road, would be put in hand immediately. It was anticipated that the greater part of the work would be completed iu the present financial year. Ranger's Cycle.—A heated discussion arose over the ranger's request tor benzine for his motor-cycle and side-car. Messrs. A. A. Buckley and G. H. Langley protested against the ranger using the cycle on Sundays for his private business, both, cycle and b.-nzine being supplied by the council. Mr. Langley declared that it was absurd for the ranger to have a cycle, a horse being more useful for roun.lingtip and driving stray ec.ttie. He asked fir a check to be kept on the fuel used. Mr. P. Floyd protested against the "pettiness of the whole business." Other members did not agree, and the matter was referred to the engineer.

Conference Representative.—Mr. Kayes was appointed to represent the council at the local bodies' conference on heavy traffic fees at Mt. Kden Council Chambers. on February 14.

Engineer s Appointment.-—Mr. \V. E. Begbie s appointment as acting-engineer was confirmed for a further six months, with increase in salary of £00.

School Street. —A hitch was reported in the negotiations tor widening School S* eet. by setting back the frontages. Cr. Langley suggested, as chairman of the « oiks Committee, that no further work should be done in reforming the streetuntil the ratepayers consented to 'he setting back ot their tronta'zes. or alternatively. to take the necessary land an 1-r the Public \\ orks Act. The matter was referred to the joint committee with power to act.

Public 'I'hone.—The Post and Telegraph Department stated that it could not pit a public telephone at the loot ot Roslvn lerrace.

Jesmond Terrace.—A deputation of thirteen residents o; -Tesmond Terrace wa:ted on the council to ask :or the road to be put in repair.
