WHIPPET RACING.
MEETING AT CARLAW PARK. The Manawatu Whippet Racing Club has decided to hold a meeting at Carlaw Park on Saturday. March 9. and a good deal of interest is sure to be manifested in the fixture judging by the large number of people who watched this class of racing at an Auckland A. and P. show a year or so ago. Whippets, it may be mentioned, are small dogs, resembling miniature grey-i hounds, and they have a wonderful turn of! speed. They race between tapes, just asl athletes do in a sprint, and hurdles are put across the course in some events to vary the programme. It. is surprising how well and quiekly they can jump, and the public will find much to interest them in the meeting. A card giving the names of the dogs, owners and handicaps will be available, and the first and second dogs in each heat contest the final. The Manawatu Club have fifty dogs in training, and the sport, which must not be confused with "tin hare" racing, has proved popular there.
