SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The members of the Auckland District Executive of the Woniens' Christian Temperance Union entertained their president, Mrs. Lee-C'owie (on the eve of her departure for a six months' visit to Honolulu) at a farewell afternoon tea at John Courts Limited. A full representation was present, and eulogistic references were made to Mrs. Cowie's valuable services, given so freely for the cause, and ■w'\s\\u\« l\t>x Godspeed, and a safe return to Xow Zealand.

| A most enjoyable party was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Mosaman, at Matiere, on Friday night last. Dancing was enjoyed, and excellent music was supplied by Mrs. Boss, J. Ross, and Mr. Wakeford, of Ohura. Fancy hats and streamers added much variety to the night's entertainment, and judging by the amount of jollity and goodwill displayed, all thoroughly enjoyed the function. About midnight a most enjoyable supper was served in an open tent, where the tables were beautifully decorated by Miss L. Mossman and Miss A. Sandison, assisted by a band of willing helpers. The arrangement of ferns and coloured streamers running in a network to the sprays of freshly-picked plums looked most effective. After supper dancing was continued to the small hours. A very happy party was held on Monday evening at Nairn's rooms to celebrate the coming of age of Mrs. Holden's daughter, Miss Esme Curson. A large number of guests assembled at supper, which was set among attractive surroundings. Miss Esme Curson, who v.ore a dainty pink georgette and satin frock, with blue shoulder wrap, was the recipient of many beautiful presents. She received with her mother, Mrs. Holden, who was dressed in an eau de nil silk crepe de chine, with gold trimmings. Among the guests were: Miss Lila Haydon, wearing mauve crepe de chine; Mrs. H. A party .of enthusiastic dancers patronised the popular cabaret, "Ye Olde Pirate Shippe," at Milford, last night. Some of the latest dance numbers were played by the "Pirate Band."
