NEW DEPARTMENT OPPOSED. COMMERCE CHAMBERS' Vll-IWS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON'. this day. A statement prepared by Mr. 11. S. K. I'urncr on the possible results of the formation of a Ministry of Transport was submitted to the last mcetinir of the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce. It was recognised that the question of transport in the Dominion was a. very diflicult, one, and. while the executive approved of anv action entailing a complete inquiry into transport matters, it was strongiy opposed to the creation of any additional < ■overnment Department.

The secretary was instructed to advi-e the Prime Minister to that effect and lo tender a. iv|iiest that no new Departments should lie inaugurated without fust ascertaining the views of various chambers of commerce.
