MINISTER AND UNIVERSITY.
MR. ATMORE WELCOMED. ANXIOUS TO CO-OPERATE.
Congratulations were extended to the new Minister of P'ducation (the Hon. H. Atmore) this morning by the Auckland University College Council. As the council wished to discuss several matters with him the Minister agreed to meet tho members at the College.
After welcoming the Minister, the president of the council (Sir George Fowlds) referred to the council's application for a grant to build a caretaker's cottage in the college grounds. He also spoke of the college endowment at Orakei. Other matters to which he drew the Minister's attention were the question of the forestry school and the union of the Auckland and Wellington colleges for the institution of the Massey Agricultural College at Paltnerston North, grants being desired for the necessary buildings.
Tho Minister thanked the council-for their cordial welcome. He said he would fully inquire into the matters brought to his notice and assured the council he would always be only too willing to confer with the members in any matter that would help on University education in the Dominion.
Jn the course of an inspection of the college, buildings, the Minister was shown the very congested state of the engineering school.
