Combined Scout Picnic,

The Scouters , Committee, formed to direct activities at the recently proposed picnic, met at headquarters on Thursday last. They now wish to notify all Scoutei s and Troop committees that it luis been decided to hold a Scout picnic at Point Erin Park on Saturday, March 2, 1!>2!(. All Troops will make their own arrangement* for transport. Hot water and milk will be obtainable at the kiosk. Opportunity will be taken during the latter part of the day to hold a commissioner's inspection of troops, so all Scouts are asked to attend in full uniform (without staves). Entries for athletic and r-wimminjj events close with D.S.M. <;. ('. Iveisen, it, Bradford Street, Parnell, on Monday, February 25. There will be an entry tee. of 1/ per troop, irrespective of the number of entries. The troop gniniu" most points will be presented with a special trophy donated by flic commissioner. Whiting) reports that with the Jioliduys over the troop has again officially started. A parade was held each Friday during the holidays for the benefit of those boys who did not go away. Although the number of Scouts who attended those parades was ;iot very great, nevertheless they enjoyed the evenings. Scout L. Hawkins, their "Lone Scout" paid them an unexpected visit last Friday night. Many of thorn had not seen "Hawkey." as he is culled, since \»»t Kaster; He was quite surprised to see the increase in numbers and in badges. The troop lias gained 21 proficiency badges, and one hecond A. 11. Cord since December 1. A troop shield was made by the S.M. and one of the competitions is inter-patrol camping, the camp to be run entirely by the patrol leader, with the S.Jf. present to allot points. Each patrol will camp from Saturday to Sunday. The Eagle Patrol, under P.L. (.1. -Mack, went into camp last week-end. Thirteen new books, bought out of troop funds, have been added to the troop library. A bookcase for the library has been made by a member of the troop (P.L. F. Whiting). The Wolf Cub Pack lias now 18 Cubs on the roll, and they hope another IS will roll up.

• * * • Leys Group Form Cub Executive. Following tin- recent meeting of the Le\ s Institute Scout Group Committee a meeting of parentH of Cubs wa.s held on Thursday iast, with the object of torming a Cub executive. There whs a fair gathering of parents, who received the report of the C libbers and discussed various details in connection with the Pack. An executive of six was appointed witli certain authority to act and report progress to the group committee of which body they automatically become imchilkts. Jt was decided to hold a pound night on the occasion of the first investiture ceremony, when parents would be invited to be present. This will be held on Thursday, February 21. • • • • Vindictive Sea Scouts (Bayswater.) On Friday night, with a muster of 24 boys, the company paraded in the Boating Club's Dance Hall, when squad drill, marching, signalling and rub of the load was the evening's programme. A few games were held between instructions. The use of the big hall is a great boom to us. During the evening a young Suva Rμ Scout visited uh. He is in Auckland for two months and should see a lot of Sea Scouts here. On Saturday two crews went sailing under Sir. Lees, and some good work wa.s done. The • • « • Victory Sea Scouts. Twenty-seven boys paraded at Victory Sea Scouts meeting on Wednesday, January (!. writes Boe'n K. Mclntyre. We were honoured by a visit from Lieut. Cole, of Manurewa Gill Guides. A very instructive evening was passed with .splicing and ambulance work. With the welcome addition of a gramophone we spent a pleasant half-hour in dancing. On Sunday. January 10, about 16 boys sailed up to Pine Island and arrived back at about '■) p.m. Our first anniversary is to be held to-morrow night, Thursday, February ]4. at All Saints' Hall, Pohsouby. All other Sea Scout j Troops are invited. It is to be held in the form of a pound night, so don't for-I get your pound of eatables. Boys' par- ! ents are also cordially invited and are' requested, if possible, to bring a basket. Fame Sea Scouts. Last Friday night we had 14 seniors and 12 Cubs on parade, writes T. J. C.
