LAST WEEK'S RESULTS.
PAL GOOD FOLLOW-ON" SENTENCES. BUT SOME SACRIFICED SENSE FOR LENGTH. Dear Boys and Girls, — When I began to sort last week's competition I noticed that the crocodile was eagerly looking over my shoulder. He always does this when he is particularly hungry, and then there is little hope for rule breakers. This week, however, he was not well rewarded for his vigilance, for only one entry, bearing neither name nor address, found it way to his hungry jaws. Many entries, however, which earned four-point certificates should really have made crocodile feed, for sense was hopelessly sacrificed for length. Anyone will appreciate that sense must be the first consideration in awarding prizes, and so it comes that a thirty-three word paragraph gives place to a twenty word one. Edna Briggs, 12, Edwin Street, Newton, won first prize for a twenty word paragraph. Nineteen "following-on -words , ' earned second place for Setty Molesworth, Ranfurly Terrace, Mount Roskill. Kathleen Sheehan, 2, Stanley Point Road, Devonport, was awarded third place, whilst Charles Taylor, "Glenmore," Waikiekie, and Kaihleen Neely, 34, West End Road, Heme Bay, came fourth and fifth respectively. A popular "S" picture competition will be conducted this week. In the picture appearing elsewhere on this page, are a number of objects, each one beginning with the letter "3.'" When you have discovered all the objects possible, arrange them in a >^"\ list, keeping it as far as possible in —, strict alphabetical order. f\) /*^*if^^^^^^*^ particulars for this competition are *VT/)y//lX given in "Our Competition *v* \W^^***^ Corner."
