NO ANNOUNCEMENT BY POLICE
WHERE DID THIEVES OPERATE?
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this dav.
Although the police have been making a close investigation in connection with the sensational robbery of registered mails from bags which were landed from the ferry steamer Wahine after her arrival frniii Lvttelton on Sunday morning no announcement as to results is yet available.
OHicfals of the Po<tal Department incline to the belief that the mails were intact when they were placed aboard the ferry steamer. In their opinion it would be impossible for so complete an overhaul of the registered mails to be made during transit from the Christchurch Post Ollii-e to Lvttelton.
Without exception all the registered letters iiffected hy the mail robbery have been delivered to the addresses.
OthViuls expect tn lie aide to estimate the amount of the monetary losses within a (lav or two.
