CINEMA FILMS.

SPECIAL PLANT AT MIRAMAR.

ACTION BY GOVERNMENT,

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WELLINGTON, this day.

For the preparation of cinema films t<-< be shown throughout the world the Minister in charge of the Publicity Department, Hon. W. B. Taverner, has arranged for the establishment of a 1G millimetre plant at the Miramar laboratorv.

"As T feel that advertising by the cinema is one of the most compelling methods in vogue at the present time," shi<l the 'Minister, "I have taken the opportunity during the last few days nf looking tato this branch of the work. The films from the Government laboratory are already favourably known both in the Dominion and overseas, but few realise the infinite care and amount of (cclmical skill required to produce the finished article. At the laboratory at Miramar a staff of cameramen supplies the necessary negatives gathered from nil parts of the Dominion, and it is the tnsk of those in the laboratory to develop the negatives, to insert the titles, find do all the drumming, splicing, cleaning and testing before the finished article is ready for showing to the public.

"Of special interest is a New Zealandmade projector in u>;e for screening pictures in tho little 'try-out' theatres attached to the laboratory. This machine has been constructed by New Zealand craftsmen, and the metal used is largely of Dominion manufacture. These films have a special value, in the fact that they are adapted for showing in private homes, in schools, universities and clubs, thus enabling them to reach a class of people who may not have the leisure or inclination to attend the usual cinema theatres.

"Some new publications of an attractive nature are to be prepared shortly, and also several striking posters. It "is my intention to see that all this work Is kept thoroughly up-to-date and in Hne with the best produced elsewhere."
