THE MONEY MARKET.

NEW YORK RATES. CALL MONFA* ADVANCED NEW YORK, February 9. As a result of the banks requiring the repayment of loans totalling £8.000.00(1, the market price for call money advanced from 6 to 9 per cent to-day. This induced heavy selling on the Stock Exchange, ami the market suffered several sharp breaks. There was a moderate recovery toward the close of the day, but stock quotations ended well below yesterday's closing prices, and in many cases near the year's low level. There were losses up to more than eight points on individual stocks. About 4...300,000 shares changed hands.
