CONCRETE PREFERRED.
WHANGAREI COUNTY ROADS. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREJ, this day. The Whangarei County Council to-day strongly supported the proposal that the Maungatapere-Whangaroi main highway should be concreted at an estimated cost of £42,000, instead of tar-sealed. The Maunu riding, which is concerned, is prepared to meet the extra quota by levying a special rate. Members considered that figures proved conclusively that concrete is economically preferable to tar-sealing, which, in North AucHJand, has not been so successful as elsewhere, mainlv because of unfavourable stone and adverse climatic conditions. These points will be stressed when the council confers with the Highways Board on its visit to Whangarei to-morrow.
