KAITAIA DISTRICT ROADS.
HIGHWAYS BOARD'S TOUR. SETTLERS REQUEST HELP. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) KAITAIA, this day. The Main Highways Board vesterdav inspected roads and bridges in the Mangonui County. The members were accompanied by a representative of the Mangonui County Council. Afterwards they met the council, which ursred that the reconstruction of the AwaroaHerekino Road be put in hand at once. Applications were made for a £o for £1 subsidy for widening the Herekino Gorge Road, and for assistance to raise portions of main highways that are subject to floods. Members also stressed the need for a renewal of the Awanui and other bridges in the countv. Later the Town Board will ask the Highways Board for larger grants from the Highways Board fund, and a large subsidy to lay down in concrete the Kaitaia main street. A deputation waited on the board at Awanui and urged that the Waipapa-kauri-West Coast Road be declared a main highway. The matters laid before the board arc to be considered later. The board visited the Ninety Mile Beach and left for Whangaroa to-day.
