COUNTY SALARIES.

INCREASES Df PIAKO.

After a lengthy discussion the Piak* County Council decided to increase tia salaries of its engineer, Mr. B. Horner* and the clerk, Mr. N. Bay, by £3t» bringing the remuneration of each official to £500 a year. . The chairman, Mr. W. B. LoWry, said Mr. Horner had saved the council thousands of pounds in the highway maintenance scheme he had introduced.

Mr. Kennedy said there was no doubt Mr. Horner had done his job well, bat he, the speaker, would not support aa increase in salary. The council would go otit of Office in* three months, and to* new council should consider the matter. He contended that a motion moved by the chairman for a salary increase to the two officials was out of order.

After further discussion the. resoltt* tion for increased salaries was carried, Messrs. Walters, Kennedy and McLean dissenting.
