DELIVERY OF LIQUOR.

JAR LEFT IN HOTEL.

SALE COMPLETE ON PAYMENT

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

INVERCARGILL, Tuesday

A case involving an interesting point of law came before Mr. G. Cruiekshank, S.M., at Bluff to-day. Briefly the facts were that a two-gallon jar of beer was tilled in a hotel on a Saturday before 6 p.m.. and placed in a recess in the hall, the purchaser's intention being to call for it later. The proprietor discovered the jar and replaced it for safety in a private bar. and banded it over to the >>urchaser on the Sunday.

The point the magistrate was called <m to decide was whether the sale of liquor was actually completed when the mirchaser removed the jar from the bar iu the first instance.

The magistrate held that legally the whole transaction was finished on Saturday evening, and that delivery was complete, and on that ground the charge against the licensee of selling liquor after hours must be dismissed.
