OBITUARY.

MS. JOHN GRIMWOOD

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) .HAMILTON, this day.

One of the best-known characters about the town for many years, Mr. John Grimwood, dog registrar to the Hamilton Borough Council, suffered a stroke and died in the Waikato Hospital at midnight, aged 68 years. With his satchel slung across his shoulders, an inevitable umbrella, and a tanned face, Mr. Grimwood was a familiar figure to all dog owners. Born in Rangiora, he had lived an adventurous life, following varied occupations from flour milling to timber cutting. He was one of the first to survey the district around Mount Cook, and he also assisted in the construction of the early viaducts on the Napier-Woodville railway. He had also been & garage mechanic, a farmer, and a sawmiller. He is survived by his wife, five sons and one daughter.
