TARRELL AGAIN WINS 100 YARDS.

Auckland championships of the local centre of tlie New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association were commenced »t the tepid baths last night, in the presence of a particularly large crowd. Although no New Zealand records were broken there were some exciting finighea, gnd the swimming was of a high standard throughout. J. P. Farrell, of the Waitemata Club, retained his 100 yards championship, winning well in GO l-5s from the veteran J. Enwright. Perhaps the best race of the evening was that between Miss D. Grant (holder of the 440 yards championship) and Miss Edna Champion, last year's intermediate champion, the latter being beaten by a foot after, a most exciting race. Miss Champion took her time in the early stages, and swam fast over the last 100 yards. Miss Peggy Robertson gave a brilliant display, winning the 100 yards intermediate girls' championship with great ease in 09 2-ss, and gaining iirst place in the 06 2'3 yards ladies' handicap in the fast time of 41 3 -ss. She might have lowered Miss Magee's record for the 100 yards had ■ she been extended. Miss Ena Stockley was the only entrant for'the 100 yards backstroke championship. She swam beautifully, and registered 1.18 2-S. This will stand as the Dominion record, as previously no mark existed for this distance, so far as records Wefe concerned. G. Bridson was expected to set up a new record in the 440 yards event, but in retaining his title by winning narrowly from H. de Lbree hH oftly wettt 2,33 3*6. In the low springboard diving championship there were three entrants, all hailing from the Ponsonby Club. W. Hassan won from the ex-Australian B. Young. A Whangarel boy, A. Walker, celebrated Jiidr first appearance in an Auckland carnival by winning the 100 yards jUhior boys' championship in the good time of 73 2 -ss, while L. Smyth woU the 100 yards intermediate boys' championship and another newCofnelr, J. Speight, of Cambridge, accounted for the 220 yafdd intermediate boys' championship, K. K. Sylow easily Won the 220 yards breaststroke championship, Which he previously held. His time was good, and his display last evening was much admired. Kesillts are as follow;—
