AUCKLAND FRUITGROWERS.
GOOD SEASON IN 1928.
LARGE EXPORT SHIPMENTS
As far as Auckland was concerned the 1928 fruit season was a particularly good one from every point of view, particularly in regard to exports. The total overseas shipments of all classes of fruit amounted to 71,931 cases and crates. Apples alone accounted for 70,815 cases, the shipments to England consisting o£ 47,093 cases. South America took 16,707 cases and Honolulu 6193. The total number of cases of apples sent to Vancouver was 822. The remainder of the export figures was made up with 116 crates of pears. In 1926 the total shipments amounted to 6156, which increased to 53,652 the following year. The year 1927 saw a slump to 18,125 cases whilst iast year the figures increased by 53,806 cases. Auckland's call on the 1928 Government guarantee amounted to a few shillings only. There were a few claims in the South Island, but these consisted of fairly extensive amounts..
Prospects for the coming season look good and those in a position to judge say that if the 1929 export season is anything like 1928 in the Auckland province then similar conditions in regard to the guarantee are likely to prevail.
