AFGHAN KING.
THRONE RENOUNCED. Rumoured Abdication Of Amanullah. IN FAVOUR OF BROTHER. (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) (Received 9.30 a.m.) DELHI, January 14. A Peshawar message states that it is strongly rumoured on the frontier that King Amanullah has abdicated in favour of his brother, Prince Inayatullah, and that he has proceeded by 'plane to Kandahar.
PERILOUS POSITION.
Enemies Will Pursue King For Vengeance. NEVER SAFE IN THE EAST. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, January 14. King Amanullah's flight to Kandahar renders it easier for him to quit Afghanistan, but his position is still perilous, as many of his recent adherents are anxious to side with the rebels. His objective from Kandahar would be Quetta, but he may select some other destination in order to be more certain of escaping the vengeance of his enemies, who will undoubtedly pursue him even into India. It is certain he will never remain in safety anywhere in the East and it is probable, therefore, should he effect his escape, that he will eventually go into retirement in Paris.
No Moslem warrior can understand the psychology of the man who seek* safety rather than die righting, And the King's flight will forever end any hope of his regaining his lost position.
CONFIRMED IN LONDON.
STATEMENT CORRECT.
(Australian Prets Aesn.—United Service.) (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, January 14. King Amanullah's abdication in favour of hie brother is authoritatively confirmed in London.
