UPWARDS AND ONWARDS

UNITED PARTY'S FUTURE. "PEOPLE ARE WITH US." NEED FOR ORGANISATION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. The Hon. W. B. Taverner, Minister of Railways, in returning thanks for a presentation made to , him by his supporters of the United party, said he believed that thousands of people who did not support the party at the last election would have done so had they known of the success it was to achieve. He hoped the party would press forward in its organisation, as the people were with them. There had been a demand from a business community right through the country for a change, and there had been a feeling amongst the workers that they were not getting just what they ought to get. That was why the change had come about. Without general support from all sections of the community, the United party could not have won.

Mr. Taverner said he was delighted to be associated with his colleagues in the Cabinet, as they were all men of sterling worth. He believed that in the Ministry there would be found to be statesmen. The Ministry would not only carry on, but would also grow in public esteem, and, under the able leadership of Sir Joseph Ward, it would go upwards and onwards.
