BAY OP WHALES, January 12. We are on board the City of New York in a bad snowstorm. It is with much difficulty that tho ship is being prevented from being blown away from the ice-field to which she is secured with anchors. The men on shore are safe and snug in tents, but it is feared the walls of the house, which is only half erected, have been blown down during tho storm.

Tho visibility was almost nothing at four o'clock this morning when the storm was approaching. The dog teams worts unharnessed and everybody was told to take a much-needed rest until tho storm was over. So they are in tents inside their reindeer sleeping bags. A temporary kitchen has been set up, consisting of canvas and food boxes.

The departure of the Eleanor Boiling from New Zealand has been delayed for at least two days by Mr. Brophy, who is in charge there. The expedition truly has reason to be thankful for the excellent equipment he secured.
