CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS.
Your statement under the above heading in Friday's issue that "there is a strong movement afoot in the city to form a Residents' Association to bring forward a ticket for Mayor and councillors" invites this my assurance to electors that through the activities of myself and associates there are some ten ratepayers and electors' associations already functioning for the purpose of submitting a platform and bringing forward a combined ticket for the consideration and support of electors at the elect ions next May. We aim at effecting a considerable change by popular vote at the then general election in the present Mayor and councillors, Mr. W. H. Murray alone excepted. so that the progress of the city upon proper bu>ine-s and constitutional lines, and the elimination of the existing waste, inefficiency and dilatorine?s in our civic administration may be effected through that poll. Our aforesaid associations have already selected delegates with a view to the formation of a confederation or central group, and are being called together this month to commence activities. These associations and confederation will function democratically. Your reference to the remark- of the head of a big concern taken in conjunction with the suggested Residents' Association i= a reminder of the fact tbat the pre-cut council and its immediate predecessor were both 'floated into oftice" with the canva-s-ed funds of a pelfappointed body miscalled the Citizens,' Projrrcsrsive League, to methods you took noted exception in a pregnant publc-ufcr iust prior to the poll of April. 1927. Municipal electors should exercise caution if a new Residents' Association be brought into being for election purposes only by anonymous sponsors. H. P. TAYLOR-
