Mtt. H. WRIGHTS TROPHIES
The Waltemnta Boating Club resumed its racing on Saturday afternoon when a set of trial fours for trophies presented by Mr. Hugh Wright were rowed. Six crews competed over the course from Orakei to the eastern tide deflector The water conditions were lumpy. Mr. T Marshall was judge, and starting was by mutual consent. The crews of the first heat were: A. Mackay, J. Lawrence, 11. Kenrick .T. Hunn ; A. G. Fearon, D. Shore T. Wilson, T. Conway; L. Brooker, t' Keegan, J. O. Hanlon, D. Young. There was little between the crews at the start but Fearon was first to show to advantage. Clope on the line Fearon's dow"s poppet string broke and the oar jumped out. Mackay went on to win. The crews in the second heat were- W Lowe. R. Smith. N. B. Hunt, E. Horning; J. Stevenson, H. Cullen. G. Gladding F Simmons; G Barker, E. Bishop, C. Cairns' E. .Tones. - Barker jrot the lead and held the' advantage till off the Parnell Baths. Lowe's crew then challenged and forged ahead to win a good race by a bare length. The crewe of Mackay, Lowe and Fearon met in the final. From a great start there was little between the crews to the half distance. Fearon went slightly ahead, with Mackay and Xowe battling along on even terms. At Point Resolution Mackay ran nt ? ■ eeend Place. Off the baths Fearon and Mackay -were about level, but a little higher up Mackay held the slight advantage. Then ensued the hardest finish of the season, and amidst great excitement Fearon got the- verdict by two feet. The winners were: C. G. Fearon, D. Shore T , Welson, T. Conway.
