MAN TALIS DOWN HOLD. FATALITY OX TAMAROA. Releasing his grasp on a derrick runner. John Malley. ac,»d 72, ~f 1:51, Wellington Street, ' city, fell down it hatch on the s.s. Taniaroa at Central wharf yesterday afternoon, landing on -i deck 30 feet below. - The fall caused his death. Mr. Malley, who was a pear man. was working on the deck at Xo. 1 liate'i shortly before three o'clock when he caught hold of an ascending derrick runner. The runner swung him off his feet. Hβ was raised about six feet clear of the deck, and was swinging over the bold when be released his grasp. He hurtled to a deck 25 feet below, where his head struck an iron insulator. Then he fell another eleven feet. The accident was witnessed by others . working with Malley. An inquest was opened this mornimr by the coroner (Mr. P. K. Hunt, S.M.). Charles Warner, watersider, of 1:51. Wellington Street, said he lived in the house which Malley occupied and had known him for 17 or 18 years. During that period Malley had been separated from his wife. The inquest will be completed before the Taniaroa sails next week. Mr. Malley was horn in Glasgow and had lived in New Zealand for at least 20 years. His wife and three daughters have been in Australia for the past I.S vears.
