PERSONAL.

Mr. and Mrs. E. Thorpe, of New Plymouth, are iu Auckland for the raccs. Mr. and Mrs. C. Henty, of Whangarei, are in Auckland for the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Howitt, of Epsom, are spending a couple of weeks at Waiheke. Mr. D. Ardell, of the Internal Affairs Department, is 011 a visit to Auckland, and is stopping at the Grand Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. C. Smythe, of Christchurch, Mr. R. Coleman, of Northern Wairoa, and Messrs. H. Archbold and G. J. Barton, of Dunedin, are at the Central Hotel. Dr. J. T. Xaurenson, of Matamata, formerly tenuis champion «f New Zealand, is in Auckland for the tenuis champiouships. He is accompanied by Mrs. Laurenson. They are at Hotel Cargen. Captain YT. M. Bell, who has completed his term as resident commissioner at Savaii, Samoa, returned by the Tofua and will be attached to the New Zealand permanent staff corps. Mr. W. H. Woodward, Chief Judge of Samoa, was a passenger by the Tofua to Auckland yesterday. With Mrs. Woodward and (lie members of his family he will spend a furlough of four months in New Zealand. The Earl of Liverpool, a former Gov-ernor-General of New Zealand, and the Countess of Liverpool are expected to reach Wellington on Saturday in tho Remuera on a holiday visit to the Dominion. Sir Dudley de Chair, Governor of New South Wales, will shortly join Lady de Chair and the members of their family, who are spending their summer holiday at Takapuna. Sir Dudley is a passenger on the Remuera, which is due in Wellington from T/ondon on Saturday. The members of tho family are spending & month in Auckland.

Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Evans, of Loudon, have come on to New Zealand from Australia and are staying in Auckland for a few days at Hotel Cargen. They will visit tlielr daughter, Mrs. Rupert Simson, of Pualiv.e, Te Awamutu. Before returning to England, Mr. and Mrs. Evans will tour tlie Dominion.

Passengers who arrived in Auckland by the Tofua from Pacific islands included Messrs. F. Hildebrand, of Berlin; W. S. Dodd, of New Jersey, U.S.A.; C. A. Berensden, Secretary of the External Affairs Department; S. H. Ellis, of Suva; R. D. Crowdace, of Samoa; F. C. Clapcott, of Fiji, and D. H. Dawson, formerly of Xew Zealand, hut recently of India and Japan. Mr. Dodd is visiting his brother, Mr. W. H. Dodd, of Ponsonbv.
