LONG OVERDUE.

Until Supremacy won the Foal Stakes to-day a period of 27 years had passed since an Auckland trainer had the pleasure of saddling up the winner. The occasion in J9O! was when Geo. Absoluni trained Was for Mrs. J. Lennard. However this did not prevent backers from displaying extreme confidence in Supremacy, to beat the Southerners this afternoon and despite the good form of Honour, Gold Tinge, and Speed Light, when the machine closed Supremacy had the call over Honour. Starting from the extreme outside Supremacy had nothing in his favour but he jumped away well. Speed Light and Ceremony went very fast in the early part and soon had a break on the field Supremacy running along third. At tlie home turn Supremacy was standing up Speed Light and Ceremony three lengths but he soon had them "settled when the judge was in sight and though he was kicked along at the end ho had a couple of lengths tx> spare at the finish. Honour finished well to beat the others. It was » clean run race and Mr. McGovern's fielding won 011 his merits. This made ius third win on end r he having Z ol } ihe Avondale Stakes «a»d A.R.G. Welcome Stakes.
