THE SALVATION ARMY.
At last the world ha* received the statement that the Salvation Army is not (as so often quoted) a purely philanthropic and religious institution, but, as many of us have always believed, a huge business organisation (vide cable message on the l-'.th inst.). One wonders what the many hundreds of thousand* of subscribers to this company's capita! (through subscription ami donation) must think now that they have been informed of this important fact, "many of whom, I have no doubt, having from tinic to time restricted their subscription and donations to their own Churches and institutions in order to assist what they believed at the time to be an institution solely and purely for the spiritual and material benefit of the many. It would l>* interesting to know what proportion of evff £1 collected goes to those for whom it *»' subscribed, what proportion uoes to salaries and expenses, and again what proportion H used in acquiring land and buildings, thereby increasing capital; in short, whv not an annual balance-sheet published in the Tress for everyone to see how the huge sum, collected every year by this business organisation, is expended Y l CURIOUS-
