TE KORERO

Greetings from the Commissioner. To the Staff, Scoutmasters, Scouts, sea Scouts, Cubs and workers in the Scout movement, New Year greetings. I wish to express my keen appreciation to all who have so loyally co-operated and assisted me since my taking over the position of District Commissioner. With your continued support 1929 should be one of the most successful years in the history of the movement. It is only possible to get out that we put in, therefore, with courage, patience and perseverance go forward and success will crown your efforts.

W. J. HOLDSWORTH, District Commissioner.

Headquarter Office.

An official memo, from the district, secretary says that district headquarters office, 328, Upper Queen Street, will reopen on Tuesday, January 8, 1929. • • • • St. George's Boy Scouts. Last Thursday evening saw our hall filled with Guides and Scouts, writes the A.S.M. of the St. George's Troop. It was our final evening for the year when the Scouts and Guides combined for- a pound night. A most happy evening was spent in games, and an ambulance display was given by our team, which won the Millar Cup. Next Thursday we leave for camp at Rocky Bay, Waiheke.

Owing to pressure of work the secretary of the badge examination regrets that he cannot return badge forms and results card re first-class tests till the New Year. • • • ft Leys Institute Cub Pack. The Leys Institute Cub Pack, formed but a few months ago, is steadily growing. Prom a membership of four Cubs on the first night the members have steadily increased until now there are 12 names on the Pack register. This improvement in number is almost enirely due to the keennesss of the cubs, for in almost every case a new recruit is registered because of the persuasion of one of the boys already a member of the pack. Sixes have recently been formed, Cubs Denny Ellerm and Des. Crawford being appointed Sixers. The newly-appointed Sixers assumed their responsibility at an afternoon parade held the Saturday before last at Point Erin Park and did very well. The Cubs enjoyed their first outdoor parade, and are eagerly looking

forward to another one. With the continued keenness of the Cubs this pack should soon attain a standard equal to that of the pack known at the institute some years ago.
