NEW RAILWAY STATION STARTED

Tlif> annual returns of the Auckland City Council show fhat it has been a steady year for building in the city, and fht> figures are considerably in excess of thfi-e of last year.

'J he Auckland city returns for the year were available to-day in view of tho fact that this afternoon the Citv Council departments closed down for the Christmas holidays until January 3.

The largest permit issued during the rear was for the new Auckland railway station, the amount being £328,000. '

Other larjre construction works undertaken dining the twelve months' period were: —

January.—Salvation Army buildin" in Crey Avenue, £15.330.

May.—Arcade in Customs Street (permit by Fletcher Construction Co.) £39,980.

June.—New premises in Queen "Street for Auckland Power Board, £73,300.

August. — Premises for Auckland Laundry Company, £15,600; flats for A. Cleave at Parnell, £18.5715.

September.—Civic Chambers in Elliott Street, £18,000.

for A. Cleave and Co., High Street, £21,000.

November.—Flats in Princes Street for Davis Consolidated, £12,704. December.—Building for Tanfield, Potter and Co., Civic Square, £17,000.
