On Christmas Eve the League of Reconciliation visited the prisoners at the Mount Eden gaol and distributed among them cakes and flowers and Christmas wishes of good cheer.

Christmas !Eve was celebrated by many dinner parties to the Grand and Cargen Hotels and the managers, Mr. Bassant and Mr. Cheseny, acted as hosts for the delightlul dance held at the Masonic Hall, Princes Street. The decorations representee a cabaret, small tables and chairs being enclosed in green latticed pews, the walls and ceiling were decorated in colours of green and scarlet finely cut streamers, and clusters of huge poppies and lilies formed growing plants. On Saturday evening manv young people assembled at the Penwrvth Tearooms to congratulate Mr. H. Williams and Miss M. Hockley on their engagement, and also to celebrate Miss Hockley s twenty-first birthdav. During the evening Miss Hockley was the recipient of many hearty and sincere wishes from her numerous friends, while amongst the presents was the proverbial "key." Dancing, interspersed with games and musical items capably rendered by Mr J. Mowlem and Mr. L. Lawn, helped pass the evening pleasantly. Miss L.
