KELLOGG PACT.
Opposition Causes Hearing To] Be Deferred. EXPLANATION ON FRIDAY. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, December 5. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has postponed consideration of the multi-lateral anti-war pact until Friday, when Mr. Kellogg will be asked to explain it. A United Press correspondent says that he is reliably informed that opposition to the pact appeared when the message was in committee. He states that the opposition was initiated by Senator Reed, of Missouri, who forced the calling of Mr. Kellogg for explanation on Friday. I The opposition is based on the ground that the treaty "would lead the United States into a world court by the back door." It is believed that further hearings will be Bought after Mr. Kellogg testifies, thus delaying Mr. Borah's plan for an immediate favourable report to the Senate. . 1 '• RATIO OF! SHIPS.
