rXEPT BY LEDGER-KEEPER.
MONEY SINCE REPAID.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, Wednesday.
The theft of sums totalling £127 6/2 between April and October this year, while in the employ of the Wellington Harbour Board, was admitted to-day by a clerk, Ashton George Edwards, aged 41, before Mr. E. Page, S.M. The chief ledger-keeper said accused had had 28 years' service with the board, and for two years to October last was assistant ledger-keeper. In October there was a cash shortage, and witness was unable to obtain a balance. When taxed, Edwards admitted without hesitation having used the board's money, and later supplied a statement. He had since resigned and had restored the money. He had made no attempt to falsify the books. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
