YEAR'S WORK DONE.

STUDENTS CELEBRATE.

TRAINING COLLEGE CEREMONY

Students of the Auckland Training College were in merry mood yesterday, when they held their customary ceremony to mark the close of another year's successful work. The principal, Mr. H. G. Cousins, congratulated the students on their records both scholastically and on the field of sport, and spoke of the ideals of the institution and the teaching profession. He made special mention of the work of Mr. R. T. Henderson (men's president) and Miss N. Ashton (women's president), and took the opportunity to present each with a boot of verse. Miss Marjorie Adams, a first year student, who holds the M.A. and B.Sc. degrees, was made the recipient of a life of the late Mr. H. A. E. Milnes, a former principal of the college, who was killed in the war, in recognition of her record in sport and work. Mr. Henderson acknowledged the reference made by the principal to the students, and Miss Ashton unveiled a print of Titian's "Portrait of a Man." and an enlargement of the staff and officers, gifts to the college by the outgoing students. A large Bible was also presented to the college memorial library for use in connection with Anzac Day services.. Mr. E. G. Jones, science lecturer, who is to be married, was given a chiming clock, and Miss A. Kennedy, of the women's department, received a handbag, the presentations being made by Mr. Henderson and Miss Ashton respectively. The college secretary (Miss E. Kitchener) had her services recognised with a cheque, and a presentation was also made to the caretaker (Mr. Phillips). Afterwards sports trophies were distributed. Subsequently the students entertained children of the Auckland orphanages round a large Christmas tree and at a delightful spread. The annual cricket match between the first and second year students was held on the Domain to-day, and this evening the farewell dance will be held at Scots Hall. The celebrations will conclude with a picnic at Waiheke to-morrow.
