DEFEAT OF POPPLEWELL. SYDNEY, November 29. A 36-hole stroke competition for the professional golf championship of New South Wales entered upon the semifinal* stage to-day on the Australian links, Kensington. W. J. Clark, holder of the State title, having defeated F. Popplewell, open champion of Australia, by three and two, tried conclusions to-day with Don Spence, the young Leura professional.
