Evidence of "hard times" in Wellington may be seen, in the fact that one pawnbroker of that city is advertising a sale by auction of £5000 worth of articles pledged during the last two years and unredeemed. Each month of the year 1927 shows a pledge list of over a hundred pledges at this one shop.
