Mr. P. Upton left for Wellington la it evening. Dr. East has been appointed medical officer for Warkvrortb. The Hon. G. W. Russell went back to Wellington last evening. Mr. D. Durham (Wellington) and Mr. and Mrs. M. Bluck (Tauranga) are at the Hotel Cargen. Sub-Lieutenant C. P. Wade, R.N., arrived from Wellington yesterday to join H-M.s. Veronica. Sir James Gunson left by car yesterday to visit his son, who is farming in the Gisborne district. Dr. E. S. Dukes, of Auckland, left by the Aorangi yesterday ou a three months' tour of the Islands. Mr. H. H. Sterling, General Manager of Railways, went back to Wellington by the Limited last evening. Mr. and Mrs. L. Howard Norton, of Remuera, returned by the Marama after a four-months' tour of Australian State*. Dr. and Mrs. Wylie, of Waimate, who have been on a visit to England and the Continent, came back by the Port Wellington yesterday. Dr. Gibb, of Wellington, ex-Moderator of the Presbyterian General Assembly, arrived from Wellington by this morning's Limited express. Mr. and Mrs. H. Francis, of Masterton, who have been on a tour of England and the Continent, came back by the Port Wellington yesterday. Captain W. M. Bell, Resident Commissioner of Savaii, left for Apia by the Maui Pomare yesterday, after four months' holiday in New Zealand.

Mr. C. D. Crawshaw, of the dental staff of the Auckland Hospital, will resign on December 31 in order to proceed to America for further study. Mr. and Mrs. M. Wright (Christchurch), Mr. M. Dryburgh (Christchurch) and Mr. E. H. Fountain (Wellington) are at the Central Hotel. Dr. and Mrs. McGusky, of Fiji, arrived by the Port Wellington from England yesterday to visit their children in Hawke'a Bay before returning to Fiji. Mr. A. Thomson, of the Scientific and Industrial Research Department, left for Samoa by the Maui Pomare yesterday to undertake research work in the mandated territory. Dr. K. Dean left by the Maui Pomare yesterday to take up the position of resident medical officer at Niue in succession to Dr. Boyd, who has been transferred to Samoa. Sir George Fowlds, chairman of the Massey Agricultural College Council, left for Palmerston North last evening to attend a meeting of the council. He expects to be back on Saturday. Mr. R. J. Brooks, of the bacteriological department of the Auckland Hospital, tendered his resignation to the Hospital Board yesterday, the resignation to take effect from' February 13. Staying at the Albert Hotel are Mr. T. Kahn (Sydney), Mr. V. P. Speedy (Hamilton), Mr. E. W. Collie (Dunedin), Mr. L. Hall (Wellington), and Mr. J. McDonald (Palmerston North).

Among the guests at the Star Hotel are Mr. C. Johnston (Sydney), Mr. E. T. Say (Wellington), Mr. R. R. Angus (Wellington), Mr. and Mrs. E. Brash (Wellington) and Mr. S. R. Chin (Palmerston North). Mr. W. J. Holdsworth leaves by the Limited to-night for Wellington, where he will attend the Dominion Council of the Boy Scout movement, in his capacity as District Commissioner for Auckland. Mr. Holdsworth expects to return home on Saturday morning. Mr. F. W. Malyon, chief engineer of the Waihi Company, has returned to Waihi after a five-months' trip abroad. He visited London and America. When at Vancouver. Mr. Malyon met Mr. Charles Banks, a mining engineer, who lived in Waihi for many years. Grand Hotel guests include Mr H. Tubbs (Wellington), Mr. and Mrs. S L. Roberts (Scotland), Mr. W. Sels (Dunedin), Mr. L. Nelson (Wellington), Mr. and Mrs. J. Montgomery (Christchurch)! Mr. and Mrs. G. Alberts (London), Mr G. Gould (Sydney) and Mr. T. k Curtis (Sydney).

Mr. S. E. Pay, assistant director of transportation, Mr. P. R. Angus, assistant chief mechanical engineer, and Mr E. P. Moir, traffic assistant to the North Island Divisional Superintendent, who have been a committee investigating engine runs in the North Island re turned to Auckland last evening.
