Another seat has been removed from the list of donbtfuls by the announcement of the final-count totals in Grey Lynn. 'The result, as announced by the returning officer (Mr. J. A. Foster), shows a win for Mr. J. S. Fletcher, # of the United party, by a majority of 64. The figures are as follows:— J. Si Fletcher (U.) 5489 P. N. Bertram (L.) 6425 P. B. Fitzherbert (Q.) ... 048 Mrs. L. Paterson (I.) .... 72 Informal 126 Majority for Fletcher 64 Absentee votes: Bartram, 228; Fletcher, 185; Fitzherbert, 52; Mrs. Paterson, 10. Seamen's votes: Bartram, 25; Fletcher. 19; Fitzherbert, ft; Mrs. Paterson, 0. Postal votes: Bartram, 25; Fletcher, 24; Fitzherbert, 5; Mrs. Paterson, 0. Declaration votes: Fletcher, 3; Bartram, 1; Fitzherbert, 1. ... On t/he preliminary count the United party candidate was shown with a majority of. 101 over the votes cast for the sitting Labour member. The revised count of these votes, however, showed that Mr. Fletcher had a lead of 128 in respect of the votes recorded locally. The effect of counting the absentee votes has been to halve the United candidate's majority,.
