HELP FOR NEEDY.
British Aid For Relief Of West Indies.
REPAIR OF HURRICANE HAVOC
(British Official Wireless.) (Received 1.30 p.m.) RUGBY, November 20. When the House of Commons last night agreed to the supplementary vote of £15,000, comprising £10,000 for Dominica and £5000 for the Leeward Islands, Mr. L. S. Amery referred to the havoc wrought by the violent hurricane experienced in the West Indies last September. He said that nearly £27,000 had been raised for the relief of private distress, which seemed likely to cover the cases. In addition destruction and damage to Government property amounted to £30,000 in Dominica alone and £15,000 in other Leeward Islands. The Government there could not afford to find the whole of tha-t loss. Of the £10,000 proposed for assistance of Dominica, half was a free gift and half was a loan free of interest to be repaid when Dominica was in a position to make repayment.
