12,000,000 People Undergoing Pangs Of Hunger.
£4,000,000 FOR RELIEF. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 10.30 a.m.) SHANGHAI, November 20. Already 12,000,000 Chinese have reached starvation point. It is expected that the total will reach 20,000,000 when the famine reaches its height in Northern and Central China.
According to an official statement from China to the International Famine Relief Committee, it is estimated that the minimum required for relief work is £4,000,000. COST OF TROOPS. BRITAIN PAYS £4,250,000. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 1 p.m.) RUGBY, November 20. A representative of the War Office stated in the House of Commons that the extra cost involved in the keeping of additional troops in Shanghai up to November was estimated at £4,250,000.
