"LIMITED."

NOT STOPS, BUT PASSENGERS RAILWAY'S EXPLANATION. SHIP PASSENGERS' COMPLAINT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) WELLINGTON, this day. When questioned regarding the complaint that three passengers from the Tainui were refused scats in the Limited at Thorndon on Monday evening a representative of the Railway Department offered the following further comments:

"Aβ is customary, a railway passenger agent boarded the Tainui in the stream and was available in the saloon to Rive information to all passengers regarding railway travel, and, in addition, notices were exhibited on board the ship, both in the- saloon and the steerage, notifying intending rail passengers to obtain tickets at Thomdon station and at the same time to reserve seats.

'"Shortly before mid-day six gentlemen, possengers from the Tainui, obtained their railway tickets at Thomdon station and were advised by the booking clerk to reserve seats. The location of the reserved seat office was indicated at the same time. Seats were reserved by three of the party, but apparently the other three did not reserve theirs and found all seating accommodation on the Limited booked up when they arrived at the station at 6.40 p.m. The Department regrets to learn that any passengers \vero left behind, but points out that had the passengers concerned taken advantage of the facilities offered and the advice tendered regarding the advisa-

iiility of reserving seats the unfortunate position the passengers found themselves to be in on arrival at the station in the evening would not have arisen. "Some people are under the misapprehension that 'Limited' means the limitation of the number of stoppages the train makes. It is the passenger accommodation that is limited. Intending passengers should realise early that it is easy to fail to secure accommodation. Yesterday a great many of the ferry steamer passengers who hoped to travel by the Limited found they had to join the afternoon train."
