Favourite Beaten.

Billy Carbine Goes Under.

Mokanna was the only withdrawal from the Innovation Handicap, the opening event of the day, and when the machine closed Billy Carbine (£531), Roez (£390), and Lady Stepney (£360) comprised the fancied division. . Lady Stepney was the first to show from Colonel Thorpe, Don Zolock, Royal Bob, Roez and Billy Carbine, but Don Zolock broke after going half a mile, and Roez and Royal Bob also left their feet. Passing the stand the first time Lady Stepney was still in charge from Colonel Thorpe, Royal Bob and Billy Carbine. Lady Stepney broke going along the back, and when they came around again Royal Bob was in front, followed by Billy Carbine, Roez, and Colonel Thorpe. Along the back Royal Bob was well clear of Billy Carbine, with Roez heading the others. The order across the top was Royal Bob, 12 lengths ahead of Billy Carbine, Roez and Don Zolock, and Royal Bob went on to win easily by four lengths from Billy Carbine, who beat Don Zolock by three lengths. Roez broke before turning for home and again in the straight. Colonel Thorpe was fourth, six lengths away, with Lady Stepney and Roez next.

A Big Field. Medusa and Tony Victor were scratched for the Epsom Handicap, leaving sixteen horses to contest the event. When the machine closed most support was accorded St. Bridget (£940), Warplane (£518) and the bracket Horizon and Admiral Lock (£402). Peter Grattan was the early leader, with Halgana, Trustworthy, Waxplane, Ursuline and Nella Dillon following. Passing the stand Trustworthy was in front with Waxplane next, and Halgana, St. Bridget, Peter Grattan and Concertina handy. At this stage Nella Dillon got on the wheels of a sulky in front and came down. Warplane had charge along the back, attended by St. Bridget, Trustworthy, Peter Grattan, Horizon, Concertina, Lady Barrington, Nelson Dillon and Lord Lu. There was no change in the leading division crossing the top, and Warplane was first into the straight from St. Bridget, Nelson Dillon, Concertina and Peter Grattan, and \he won by a neck from St. Bridget, who beat Concertina by three lengths. Horizon was fourth, then came Lady Barrington. Admiral Lock, Peter Grattan and Maid of the Mountains.

Favourite Beaten in Ranklin. All started in the Franklin Handicap for which Dick Dillon was sent out favourite with £862 invested on his number, next in demand being Taipare (£850) and Laplander (£832). Laplander ana Uncle Bert were slow to move and Dick Dillon was the early leader, attended by AH Bell, Taipare and Uncle Bert. As they came past the stand the first time All Bell was leading Dick Dillon, Taipare, Uncle Bert, Florerit, Laplander and The Abbey. When they came around again the order was unchanged except that Laplander had moved up. Along the back All Bell was still out in front, with Dick Dillon and Taipare handy. The latter put in a fast run and was out six lengths in front crossing the top from Laplander, Dick Dillon and The Abbey. Taipare led into the straight and, pacing in good stlye, went on to win by three lengths from Laplander, with The Abbey a length and a-half furtier back. Florent was fourth with Dick Dillon, Uncle Bert and All Bell next. An inquiry wae held concerning the running of Taipare. The explanation of the owner, R. A. McMillan, was accepted.

The Big Event. All the acceptors went to the post in the Fergussou Handicap, the principal event on the programme, and the bracket, Jackie Audubon, Native Prince, and Jewel Pointer, was the public choice, carrying £2227, with Gold Jacket (£1121) and Mate O , Mine (£523). Dillon Huon, the winner, carried £305. Native Prince was slow to move, and Dillon Huon was first to get going, attended by Mate O , Mine, The Shrew, Billy Sea, and Jackie Audubon. Passing the stand Dillon Huon was going nicely in front of The Shrew, Mate O , Mine, Jackie Audubon, Billy Sea, Loch Moigh, Gold Jacket, Native Prince, and Jewel Pointer. The second time round they were racing in practically the same positions, and as they went along the back the order was Dillon Huon, The Shrew, Jackie Audubon, Mate 'O Mine, and Gold Jacket. Jackie Audubon broke approaching the top, and Dillon Huon was well clear of The Shrew at this Rtage, with Mate O' Mine, Gold Jacket, Native Prince, and Jewel Pointer following. Dillon Huon turned for home fifteen lengths ahead of The Shrew, with Gold Jacket, Mate 0' Mine and Jewel Pointer next. Dillon Huon tired in the run to the post, but lasts 1 long enough to gain the decision by three lengths from Mate 0* Mine, who beat Gold Jacket by a length, with Billy Sea a further halflength away. Loch Moigh was next, and thr>n c«me The Shrew, while Native Prince and Jewel Pointer slowed down to a walk, " ~,.,.," .".,"." .. ~
