MR. DICKSON AT REMUERA.
A large audience attended at St. Mark's Hall, Remuera, to listen to an address from Mr. J. S. Dickson, the Reform candidate. Mr. Eric Inder was chairman, and remarked it was thirty years since Mr. Dickson was elected a member of the old Remuera Road Board.
Mr. Dickson was frequently interrupted during his vindication of the policy of the Government. With regard to the United party's statement that the Reform party had virtually squandered £128,000,000, Mr. Dickson asked: "What is the use of making wild assertions? Why don't they give us the items?" Mr. Dickson denied that the Government had increased the taxation on poorly paid men. Mr. Dickson also pointed out, with regard to tile duty on wheat, that it was needed to ensure the growth of that grain by. Southern farmers, and added that bread was only one halfpenny per four pound loaf dearer in New Zealand than in Australia.
After answering a number of questions a motion of thanks and confidence was proposed. An amendment of thanks aiul no confidence was submitted, but the chairman ruled that was a direct negative. The motion was then put, and, after taking a show of hands, the chairman declared it to be carried.
