SANE LAND POLICY.

NEED OF THE HOUR.

MR. KELLS MASON'S ADVOCACY.

With his very complete knowledge of the district and its wants, Mr. Kells Mason, the United party candidate for Manukau, kept a crowded audience thoroughly interested at his meeting at Te Papapa last evening, over which Mr. Speight presided. The candidate outlined his policy, and laid special etress on the menace of unemployment. He stated that over 13,000 men had walked off farms, and city electors did not seem to realise what that meant. Each man on the land could keep two people busy in the town, and the failure of the men on the land was one of the main causes of the present prevalence of unemployment. The Government Was primarily to blame because of its utter lack of a land policy* If the United party was returned to power one of its first tasks would be to inaugurate a sane and progressive land policy. The candidate criticised the present method of administering the Civil Service superannuation scheme. As soon as a Civil servant on superannuation died his pension ceased and his widow might bo left penniless. The only fair way would be to provide that the pension would be continued in the name of the widow.

At the close of an excellent meeting Mr. Mason was given a vote of thanks and confidence.
