TRANSPORT BOARD.
GAZETTING OF ACT.
COUNCIL REPRESENTATION.
SPECIAL MEETING AREANGIH
A special meeting of the Auckland City Council will be held next Thursday afternoon to nominate six members of the Auckland Transport Board, which is to be set up. Notification was received by the City Council last evening that the Act would be gazetted this week. Mr. E. J. Phelan said that it had been suggested that the City Council had not sent the city results of the recent poll to Wellington promptly, and that it had held up the gazetting of the Act. The Mayor (Mr. G. Baildon) said that the poll was only held on Wednesday of last week, and how in the name of anything good—(laughter)—could the Act be gazetted last week. As a matter of fact the Town Clerk had wired the result of the city poll to Wellington. The suburbs could not have moved any quicker.
Mr. Phelan said word had been received in Auckland that as soon as the figures were received the Act would be gazetted.
Mr. M. J. Coyle: The City Council always gets blamed- Don't take any notice.
