ROME, November 4.
Following heavy rainstorms Mount Etna became active from a crater at an altitude of 6500 feet and made in the 1865 eruption. A lava stream one mile wide is advancing on the village of Saint Allio, and is devastating the forests en route. Trees 100 years old are flaring up like matchwood. Isolated farms on the mountainside have been evacuated and inhabitants in other threatened villages are ready to flee at any moment.
